OTOLITH inside-out

What is the relationship between the outside and the inside in photography and painting? What are the potentials of the two forms concerning introspection and expression? In her exhibition, Yala Juchmann fuses these media systems into one scene. As a symbol of orientation and the knowledge inherent in the material, the exhibition moves around an otolith.
Otoliths are calcite crystals floating in a gooey wad. They function as physical measuring devices to generate the information of gravitational force. The "auditory sand" forms the mechanical part of the human equilibrium.
